Random Tuesday Thoughts: The Cranky Edition

Exhausted

I’ve been routinely clocking 10–12-hour days at work. It’s the time of the year when everything kicks into overdrive, making having a life next to impossible. But I try. I’m trying to maintain some semblance of a regular schedule, but it’s been tough. Thursday night I managed to get Gracie to agility at 8:00 p.m.—but I had to drag her to work with me and even SHE was exhausted at the end of 10 hours—and by the time we got home it was 10:00 p.m. I was beat.

Gracie had a dog show this past weekend so I had to groom her Friday night. By the time I got home from work, had some dinner and relaxed for a few, it was about 9:30. I had about 90 minutes of grooming ahead of me and somehow had to still wake up at 6:00 a.m. to get ready and drive out for the show.

By Sunday afternoon I was exhausted. Bill and I grabbed some dinner and I did something I rarely do—I got in my PJs and crawled into bed at 6:00 p.m. I thought I would relax a bit, watch some TV or read a book, but 2 minutes later I was out like a light.

Zzzzzzz

Zzzzzz

I’m glad I had the foresight to set my alarm because I slept through to 7:00 a.m. Monday morning. (For comparison sake, I got less than half that last night.) I’ve gotta tell ya, I felt so good. It wasn’t one of those “I’ve been in bed too long” sleeps. I felt healed.

Change For The Sake of Change

When I was an editor, I hated when other editors would make changes to copy simply to make their mark on something. To me it was like they were trying to justify their positions. It rarely made an article better, and more often than not, the changes convoluted something that was just fine to begin with.

Change for the sake of change is not good.

That’s why I’m pissed off at Facebook.

Facebook took a perfectly functioning site and fucked it up for no good reason. They decided to separate Status Updates from News Feeds. But because that wasn’t annoying enough, there’s a Live Feed and a News Feed. It’s nearly impossible to see everything in one place. And updates drop off because they changed how many you can see at once.

Facebook is a social media site. The operative word being “Social.” I visit it for fun (remember that, Facebook??). I don’t want to have to work that hard to see everyone’s updates. I want to go to my home page and see my friends’ updates and news feeds—live and otherwise—all in one place. The way it used to be. Why Facebook had to pull it all apart is beyond me. I’m sure they’re trying to stay relevant—MySpace assumed they’d be the only game in town and didn’t make enough changes and now they’re falling apart—but Facebook should only change things if they’re going to improve them. Which they didn’t.

Tails From the Dog (Show)

Gracie didn’t do well at the dog show this weekend. Let me rephrase that: She did well—she moved the way she should, she behaved, and she looked stunning—but she didn’t win. She was runner-up on Saturday, but unless you’re entered in the Miss California pageant, runner-up doesn’t mean shit. Runner-up is a pretty ribbon that says RESERVE. As in “We’ve reserved the Winner’s ribbon for someone else. Loser.”

She needs 1 point (One! Uno! Une!) to become Champion Gracie. But I’ve been dragging her to shows for the past month and we can’t get that one single point. Did I mention it’s only ONE POINT? It’s frustrating because she racked ‘em up fast in the beginning—the first 13 came easy—and then all of a sudden, nothing.

Doing her thing...

Doing her thing...

She got a point last weekend, but this weekend she got her cute little wiggle-butt kicked up and down the ring. It’s frustrating because, just like everything else, it’s politics more than anything—who the judge knows, who knows the judge, whether the judge knows the handler. I can’t wait until she has that last point. I think we’re both tired and ready for her to just be a dog.

Poor Champion Gracie! Give me the judge’s name. I’ll have a little “chat” with him.

and facebook? sucks. I wish I had never started with it.

  4. Ha! Thanks for giving me more anti-Facebook ammo.

Cute kitten, by the way. Does Gracie ever pass out like that?

  5. Issa :

Did you know you can change the facebook thing to where you see updates and not that stupid news feed? when you go in, on the left hand top corner you can hit the more button bellow the links button. Then you can move the little buttons around. Just put the Status updates at top.

  6. Lesley :

No one was more anti-FB than me before I used it. Then I was totally anti-FB for some time after I started using it. Then it clicked for me and now I love it! I wasn’t using it long enough before to really feel the difference between the two formats though. I do know enough to feel like however they’re determining news feed vs. live feeds is not exactly intuitive. DURR.

Come on, Farty! Get on FB! I need yet another way to stalk you. No really. I’m serious.
